STRUCTURAL TECHNICIAN

Based in Norwich, we specialise in Engineering Master Planning, Due Diligence, Flood Management, Pre-Development Engineering, Drainage Design, Transportation Planning, and Highways Design.
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Structural Technician to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, analysing, and overseeing the construction of various structures, ensuring they are safe, sustainable, and built to the highest standards. This role requires a strong foundation in engineering principles, as well as proficiency in relevant software tools.

Responsibilities
- Drafting and Preparing Drawings: Creating detailed structural drawings and plans using computer-aided design (CAD) software
- Plan and Specification Analysis: Ensuring that plans and specifications comply with building codes and regulations
- Design Assistance: Assisting in the design and planning phases of construction projects
- Site Inspections: Conducting site inspections to assess the structural integrity of buildings and other infrastructure
- Coordination: Collaborating with engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to develop structural designs
- Technical Reports: Preparing technical reports and documentation
- Material Investigation: Investigating the properties of materials like glass, steel, and concrete, and advising on their suitability for specific projects
- Load and Stress Calculations: Calculating the loads and stresses on different parts of a structure, such as foundations, beams, arches, and walls
- Regulatory Approvals: Obtaining planning and building regulation approvals
Experience
- Typically, a high school diploma or GED is required. An associate's degree in civil engineering technology or a related field can be advantageous
- Hands-on experience in the field, often gained through internships or part-time jobs, is highly valued
- Ability to create and modify structural engineering drawings using computer-aided design (CAD) software
- Strong grasp of structural engineering principles and calculations
- Excellent mathematical skills and the ability to analyse complex data
- High level of attention to detail to ensure accuracy in drawings and compliance with standards
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with engineers, architects, and construction teams
- Ability to work well in a team environment and coordinate with various stakeholders
- Creative thinking and design skills to develop innovative solutions
- Awareness of industry regulations and standards to ensure the safety and compliance of structures
